At least five dead from torrential rains in the Ivory Coast

July 9 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Four people from the same family have died from the collapse of their home due to torrential rains in Micao in the municipality of Yopougon, on the outskirts of Abidjan, the economic capital and institutional headquarters of the Ivory Coast. Another person has died from the floods.

The collapse occurred on the night from Thursday to Friday after the continuous fall of rain for hours that caused the disaster, according to the Ivorian news portal 7info.

The four victims died buried under the mud and rubble of their house while they slept, according to a neighbor in the area, Koné Adama.

“It was around 1:00 a.m. when we heard the screaming. My window was facing the neighbor’s house and I went out to see what was happening. I found a friend who told me he was looking for the number of the fire department. I found the number and called. But Since they were slow to arrive, I asked my brother to help me remove the rubble to remove those who were buried there. There were five in the house. Only one person was able to get out. All the others died and we removed the bodies,” he said. .

“After all this, the Firefighters and the Police arrived. It was already 03:00 in the morning, two hours after the tragedy,” he explained.
