The CNMC has asked that a deadline be set for all lines that are used for connected devices, as they would be IoT devices, stop using conventional phone numbers – the ones we would find on any mobile phone –to switch to using their own with a 590 prefix.
There are many machines, IoT devices, and in general any device that requires a permanent connection to the Internet and does so through a SIM card that gives them access to mobile networks, and although since 2010 telephone numbers beginning with 71, 72, 73 and 74 can be used, more than 96 percent of the available telephone numbers have already been assigned in Spain.
In this way, if what the CNMC requests is fulfilled, machine-to-machine communications, which in 2012 received their own numbering, they will have to migrate to the 590 prefix with 13-digit numbers that should alleviate the pressure that is currently placed on the telephone infrastructure at the telephone number level.
For now it is unknown what could be the date chosen to carry out this change, but hopefully you don’t want to take too long to prevent the problem from getting worse.
