Tidal has begun rolling out high-resolution FLAC streaming across the entire platform, as indicated by CEO Jesse Dorogusker himself via a Reddit post. Thanks to this FLAC format, Tidal will be able to deliver high-fidelity audio up to 24-bit/192kHzyes, with much larger files, weighing more than four times that of a standard MP3.
This function has arrived in its early access mode for iOS users, while Android users will have to wait for August –in the same way as users who are not affiliated with the application’s early access program.
If we are within the group that can use the functionality, all we will need to do is update the beta application and select “Maximum” quality in settings. Dorogusker says that Tidal is waiting for user feedback before making the tools more widely available, so it is to be expected that the more feedback there is about it, the better the function can reach the general public.
Previously, Tidal used MQA (Master Quality Authenticated) audio for hi-res streamingbut this is more of an enhancement technique than an actual file type, something that has garnered hundreds of criticisms in the audiophile community.
