It is considered one of the worst Batman, but there is a 170-minute director’s cut that would change history

Masks (with bat ears) out: around here we like Schumacher’s Batman. Val Kilmer’s is a marvel with two of the best villains in the franchise and a joyous and disbelieving approach to the hero. George Clooney’s is a show camp Top-notch film that celebrates everything ridiculous and admirable about superheroes. The first has a 39/32 on Rotten Tomatoes and the second, a 12/16. The only sin of him, refusing to present a depressing Batmandark and traumatized.

However, the perception of the first of these films (that they do not need anyone to rescue them from ignonymity: they already defend themselves) could change if information continues to be known about a rumored director’s cut of Joel Schumacher of 170 minutes. The subject has been discussed for about a year, but it has been the director Kevin Smith who has confirmed on his Fat Man Beyond podcast that it exists and that he has seen it.

This is certainly not bluffing: there are, of course, deleted scenes from the film that ended up appearing as extras on the DVDs, such as the famous hallucination sequence in which Bruce Wayne comes face to face with a giant bat. It is a sequence that was broadcast in its day in promotional materials for the film, since it was about to enter the final cut.

Rumors about this montage surfaced on Twitter during the campaign for the release of the Snyder’s Cut of ‘Justice League’. There was talk of a much more “dark and serious” montage than the one we saw in the cinema, and that Warner was not entirely convinced that there was real interest in that version of the film. At the moment, Smith already anticipates that he is going to send it to his partner Bernardin to comment on it on the program.
