June 14 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The jihadist group Islamic State in Central Africa (ISCA) has claimed to have killed 20 “Christians” in a new attack around the city of Beni, located in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and hit by an increase of insecurity in recent years.
The group has indicated in a statement published through its propaganda channels that during the attack the homes and vehicles of the victims have also been set on fire, according to information from the SITE Intelligence Group, an organization specialized in monitoring terrorist groups.
ISCA has increased its operations in this area of the African country after the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) armed group swore allegiance to it. The Congolese president, Félix Tshisekedi, confirmed in 2019 the existence of ties between the jihadist group and the ADF.
The ADF militia has been active in the DRC since the 1990s and, despite repeated offensives launched against it, it continues to generate violence in the area. Thus, it is considered one of the most dangerous armed groups operating in the DRC.
