The Peruvian Foreign Minister, Ana Cecilia Gervasi, and the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates in Peru, Mohamed Abdulla Ali Khater Alshamsi, subscribed the “Air Services Agreement between the Republic of Peru and the United Arab Emirates”, which provides the legal framework for the airlines of the Asian country to extend their commercial operations in the territory of that country.
With the signing of the agreement, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) becomes the first country in the Middle East with which Peru signs an agreement of this type that will allow the establishment of new passenger air routes for tourism and business trips between Peru, Arab countries and Asia Pacific.
This important instrument signed is complemented by the signing and recent entry into force of the Agreement for the Suppression of Tourist Visas between both countries.
Foreign Minister Ana Cecilia Gervasi said that, with this agreement, the Dubai airport, one of the main ones globally, could be a notable alternative for exports to the Middle East and Asia Pacific, as well as for the businesses of the Emirates United Arabs in Latin America.
“On the near horizon, we hope that thousands of delegates who will participate in the APEC Forum, to be held in Peru in 2024, will partly use Emirati airlines to get there,” said the Peruvian official.

At another time, Gervasi mentioned that, with the objective of starting the operations of these airlines, a joint strategy will be proposed with the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, in order to promote initiatives to increase domestic and international connectivity, as well as to improve the quality and efficiency of airport infrastructure and services.
It should be noted that, after the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two states, the presence of the United Arab Emirates in Peru has increased significantly, being currently the main trading partner and source of investment from the Arabian Gulf region. In addition to participating as an observer of the Pacific Alliance since 2018.
Likewise, the United Arab Emirates is Peru’s first trading partner in the Middle East, with significant investments in port infrastructure and in the energy sector that exceed US$1.6 billion and generate approximately 1,000 jobs in Peru.
