Nintendo eShop for Wii U and 3DS no longer work; useless app reminds you which games you’ll never buy

There is no date that does not arrive or deadline that is not met, and as agreed, the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U digital store stopped working a few hours ago. However, Nintendo still lets you in, just to remind you of the games you never bought and will never buy.

As planned, Nintendo would stop supporting the Nintendo eShop for both systems at 6:00 PM (Mexico City time).

Chronicle of the closure of Nintendo eShop: what happened to the Nintendo digital store?

LEVEL UP had the opportunity to make purchases and downloads in the Nintendo 3DS digital store and there were no problems, despite the fact that they were highly demanded titles. In fact, it was possible to make a Nintendo ID account just minutes before closing time without any hassle.

However, 1 minute before the agreed time, there was no longer access, but instead it received the players with a message indicating that it was undergoing maintenance: “We apologize for any inconvenience,” Nintendo commented, also sharing the error code 007- 5503, that it is not necessary to be an expert to imagine that it was the update that would disconnect the respirator from the Nintendo eShop.

Soon after, some users might have been excited to see that they could get into the Nintendo eShop, perhaps because Nintendo gave them more time to complete their last-minute purchases and downloads, but their disappointment must have been immeasurable when they saw that the store looked different.

In case you missed it: users said goodbye to the Nintendo eShop.

On the main page there were no longer a bunch of games, but they were greeted by a banner of Nintendo Selects, for some reason. Below there were options, such as adding funds, something that had not been possible for a long time, neither with a bank card nor with a prepaid balance (it was only possible to add funds through Nintendo Switch and link the accounts).

LEVEL UP then tried to do a search to see if the games were still showing up on the platform. The funny thing is that Nintendo allows you to enter the Nintendo eShop and it is even possible to navigate between its games, but it is not possible to buy or download them, not even free-to-play ones, as planned: “This software is not currently available” .

That being said, it’s the perfect way for users to get on the platform and search for the digital titles they’ve never downloaded and will never be able to get.

What will happen to the Nintendo eShop?

Please note, however, that any funds you add to Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS or Wii U can still be used on Nintendo Switch eShop if you have linked your accounts.

Games that you have ever downloaded to your Nintendo 3DS system will still be downloadable if you ever delete them. Additionally, it will be possible to download DLC that you purchased and the games will be able to receive updates after the closing of the Nintendo eShop.

Were you present at the closing of the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U? Did you buy all the games and DLC you wanted to buy? Tell us in the comments.
