The civil coalition Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC) has assured that the new unity government in Sudan will be announced in April, following the agreement reached between the Army and the political and civil groups that seek to restore the transition process begun in 2019 after the overthrow of the regime of Omar Hasan al Bashir.
“A final agreement will be signed and the structures of the transitional authority will be formed during the holy month of Ramadan,” said Taha Osman, a member of the FFC negotiating team, adding that the schedule for the next steps will be agreed on on Sunday.
Thus, it has revealed that the drafting committees of the final agreement and on the structure of these transitional authorities will soon begin their meetings to advance the agreement, signed on December 5, 2022 to try to solve the serious political crisis in the African country.
The FFC, separated from the transitional authorities by the head of the Army and president of the Sovereign Transitional Council, Abdelfatá al Burhan, after the October 2021 coup against the then transitional prime minister, Abdalá Hamdok.
The transitional authorities were established following an agreement between the previous military junta, which emerged after the 2019 coup against Al Bashir, and various civil organizations and opposition political formations.
This government had begun a battery of social and economic reforms and has reached a peace agreement with important rebel groups in Darfur and other areas of the country, a process that was cut short after the overthrow of Al Burhan.
Subsequently, new contacts were initiated to bring positions closer together and finally a ‘framework agreement’ was signed in December to try to relaunch the transition and form an Executive, with the declared objective of holding elections within two years.
