Protesters stage an escrache against the Israeli Supreme Court president to protest judicial reform

A group of protesters carried out an escrache on Tuesday against the president of the Supreme Court of Israel, Esther Hayut, to protest the controversial judicial reform presented by the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The protesters have gathered in front of Hayut’s home, in the north of Tel Aviv, the Israeli capital, heavily guarded by a police device that has also been present to separate the crowd from another rally in favor of judicial reform in the same place, as reported by the newspaper ‘The Times of Israel’.

During the day, there have also been other protests from the technology sector in front of one of the main industrial centers of Tel Aviv, very close to the Ministry of Defense. Specifically, nearly 1,000 protesters have gathered to express their discontent with the judicial reform.

The Israeli industry, high technology, represents a large part of the country’s exports, which is why many protesters allude to the repercussions that the measure could have in the sector, as reported by the newspaper ‘Haaretz’.

More than 100,000 people took to the streets of Tel Aviv and other cities on Sunday to protest for the third consecutive weekend against the government of the new Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the most right-wing in the country’s history, as well as against the new reform of the judicial system.

Israel’s Justice Minister Yariv Levin aims to reorganize the judiciary by considerably limiting the review powers of the High Court of Justice as well as ensuring political power’s control over the appointment of judges.
