The Chinese authorities have raised the death toll to 28 this Friday as a result of a snow avalanche that occurred earlier this week in the city of Nyingchi, in the Tibet Autonomous Region, located in western China.
The latest balance of the emergency services placed the death toll at 13. Now, after adding another 15 bodies to the total count of deaths, the competent authorities have terminated the search and rescue work, according to ‘China Daily’.
The avalanche occurred Tuesday on a stretch of road at the exit of a tunnel in Mainling County. The Chinese Ministry of Emergency Management sent several work groups to the scene of the events, with more than a thousand rescuers and 30 vehicles.
After the news was released, the country’s authorities urged to strengthen monitoring of the situation and move those affected to a safe place to prevent possible disasters, as reported by the newspaper ‘Global Times’ earlier this week.
