At least four Iraqis killed in an armed attack in southeastern Turkey

At least four people of Iraqi origin have been killed in an armed attack on a vehicle in the southeastern Turkish city of Mardin, near the Syrian border.

The Turkish Police has indicated that a fifth person has also been injured after several armed men opened fire on a vehicle in which the victims were traveling on the Artuklu highway, according to information from the newspaper ‘Daily Sabah’.

Thus, it has reported that the wounded man has been transferred to the Nisibis State Hospital while the necessary work is carried out to find the assailants and stop them. For its part, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry has confirmed the nationality of the four fatalities and has indicated that it is working with the Turkish side to clarify what happened.

In this sense, he has expressed his condolences and has indicated that it was a family, according to information from the Al Sumaria television channel. The Prime Minister of the semi-autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan, Masrur Barzani, has condemned the attack and has indicated that the four deceased came from that region.

“I condemn this crime and I demand that the Turkish government clarify the reasons and bring those responsible to justice,” he stressed.
