The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, held a meeting this Sunday with the Russian ambassador, Aleksandar Bocan-Harchenko, on the crisis in Kosovo, a week after NATO rejected Belgrade’s request to deploy the Army and the Police Serbs in order, according to the Serbian authorities, to protect the civilian population from the persecution to which it is being subjected by the Kosovar authorities.
“President Vucic informed Ambassador Bocan-Harcenko about the intensification of international diplomatic activities regarding the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina,” the Information Service of the President of the Republic announced.
For his part, the ambassador confirmed that the Russian Federation “remains constant in its support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Serbia”, according to the note collected by the Serbian public broadcaster RTS.
The Serbian government submitted the request on December 15, during the height of the crisis between Pristina and Belgrade, at a time when the Kosovar Serb population had risen on barricades to protest against arrests of members of this community.
The barricades were finally removed last week in a respite from bilateral tensions, which nevertheless flared up again on Friday of last week after an individual shot and wounded two young Kosovar Serbs in southern Kosovo. In the incident, the authorities have confirmed, a Kosovar security agent would have been involved.
