The President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, has affirmed this Friday that the fighting continues in the Ukrainian town of Soledar despite the fact that the Russian Ministry of Defense has assured that its troops control the city, located in the Donetsk region.
“The difficult battle for the Donetsk region continues. The battle for Bakhmut and Soledar, for Kreminna, for other cities and towns in the east of our country continues,” he said in his evening speech, according to the UNIAN news agency.
The region has been the object of intense fighting in recent days during which the parties to the conflict have offered contradictory versions, without making it clear who controls this town in its entirety.
While the spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry, Igor Konashenkov, has stated that the “liberation” was “completed” in the last few hours, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Army in the east, Serhii Cherevati, has denied in statements to RBC -Ukraine Moscow version.
The Wagner Group, an alliance of mercenaries related to the Kremlin, had already taken Soledar for granted a few days ago, but Moscow had been more cautious and kyiv had directly denied the loss of the town, where satellite images already show the effects of the destruction.
