Chinese authorities have reported at least 27 people missing after a floating crane sank in a typhoon in Yangjiang, Guangdong, southern China.

The Maritime Search and Rescue Center activated the emergency signal, after the floating crane ‘Fujing 001’ –which is part of the infrastructure for the construction of an offshore wind farm project– broke and sank, has reported the ‘China Daily’ newspaper.

Emergency services from the southern provinces of the peninsula and Hong Kong moved to the scene to participate in the rescue.

Three people have been rescued by the Hong Kong rescue helicopter. However, the remaining 27 people fell into the water and contact with them has been lost.

As reported by the aforementioned newspaper, the ship has been sunk and the search and rescue operation is underway.
