Introduction and technical specifications of the MSI Creator P100X 12V

We have before us the MSI Creator P100X 12V review in its most powerful configuration. A compact desktop thinking for content creators, with an Intel Core i7-12700K along with 64 GB of DDR5-4800 memory that hides a “little secret”. And it is that the striking thing about this equipment, which we already told you that in Spain it will not be sold with this graphics card (at least for now), is that it has an entire RTX 3090, so it can perfectly pass for a high-performance gaming equipment. , so we have done both content creation tests and gaming tests and GPU tests to see what it is capable of.

Design and connectivity

The design is identical to what we have already seen in other models of previous generations of the MSI Creator P100X, this time we have a design with a white finish and with very contained measurements, especially the thickness, of 131.85 x 372.2 x 402.7 mm along with a weight of 8.35 KG.

Its design is vertical and rests on a base with a large base that keeps it stable. Both side covers stand out, full of small holes, forming areas of uneven distribution of the same. Beyond the aesthetic touch, these holes are key to maintaining a flow of air towards the component fans, which, on the one hand, we have the air cooling of the CPU and on the other the graphics card.

The front and top have gold bezels, and MSI’s “gaming” dragon logo is also present. In addition, on this front part, a zone of RGB LEDs runs along the side.

The upper area also has holes to let the air out by convection, and both it and the sides can be removed to make modifications or extensions to the components, yes, by removing small star screws.

If we look from the front, on the right side we have the smooth part of the 850W SFX power supply next to the low-profile heatsink fan that is responsible for cooling (not without some other problem) the Intel Core i7-12700K. Thanks to the perforated covers, the fan practically takes direct air from the outside.

Here we also have space for two SATA III drives, one of them occupied by a 2TB mechanical hard drive. At this point, in a team of this range, an SSD of that or more capacity was expected.

On the opposite side is the rear of the motherboard and socket, the power supply fan, and the most striking thing: MSI’s massive triple-fan RTX 3090 Ventus. Being one of the most powerful graphics in the world, it is striking to see it integrated into such a compact device. However, again, by having direct air inlet and outlet, we will have no problems with the temperatures of this “monster”.

If we turn to connectivity, we find some downgrades that cannot be justified. Unlike the 11th generation model, the MSI Creator P100X 12V does not have Thunderbolt 4.0, and that is something that can be quite essential in a team for content creators that may require transferring large amounts of data in a short time.

There is also no USB4 or USB 3.2 2×2 20Gbps. We will only have USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports in the front side, and then in the back, several USB 3.0 and a pair of USB 3.1 (3.2 gen 2 of 10 Gbps). At least the 2.5 Gbps Ethernet RJ45 connectivity is maintained.

Additionally, and adding to the HDMI and three DisplayPort of the RTX 3090, the motherboard includes an HDMI and a displayport if we need to make use of the integrated GPU in the Core i7-12700K of the team. Finally, three audio minijack connectors complete the physical connectivity section of the equipment.

Performance of the MSI Creator P100X 12V

The Core i7-12700K performs at a very good level, in some tests it is above and in others below other desktops with the same CPU. Here the temperatures that it reaches and the configuration of the equipment come into play, but its performance in general is excellent with the 64 GB of RAM.

The RTX 3090 already plays in another league, and both in content creation and in games it is the absolute queen, the MSI Creator P100X 12V is the most powerful desktop that has passed through our hands.

Temperatures and noise

The power limit and thermal throttling appear when the processor is being pushed to the max, but it doesn’t seem to affect multi-core and single-core performance too much.

Geeknetic MSI Creator P100X 12V Review 35

The cooling of the CPU is still a compact heatsink, and the limitations are there, despite being able to take in air from the outside.

Geeknetic MSI Creator P100X 12V Review 36

On the other hand, the RTX 3090 remains at stable temperatures under high graphics load and raytracing around 80-81 degrees. The processor in those situations does not exceed 71 degrees.

Geeknetic MSI Creator P100X 12V Review 37

Externally, the heat mostly comes out of the top as intended, especially with the graph so close to that part.

As for the noise, it does not generate more noise than expected in those components. The loudest thing is usually the graphics card when it’s fully loaded, but it’s nothing to write home about.

Analysis and Conclusion

The problem with using configurations of this type, with an RTX 3090, in the range for creators, along with some aesthetic details such as the RGB lighting on the front, is that it blurs the line a lot in the MSI range of gaming computers and computers for creators.

One of the criticisms that are often heard regarding the equipment for creators is that they are “gaming or normal equipment, with white or gray color”, and this MSI Creator P100X 12V fulfills it to the letter. That does not mean that it is a bad team for content creators, but possibly for that type of use, an RTX 3090 is something too exaggerated, and its price, at least in other European countries where it is available, is around 5,000 euros.

In Spain we will have more modest variants with graphics ranging from an RTX 3060 Ti to an RTX 3080, which are also not a piece of cake.

Geeknetic MSI Creator P100X 12V Review 40

We do not understand how removed Thunderbolt 4.0 connectivity, and neither is the choice of a 2TB mechanical drive to accompany the other NVMe 1.4 SSD. For that price it should only carry an SSD. In any case, there is no doubt that this is one of the most powerful desktop computers on the market, therefore, it deserves the award for the best desktop computer that has passed through our laboratory, above high-performance gaming equipment that they are unable to reach it.
