The ninth Council of Ministers for Environmental Sustainability of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) took place in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines from May 31 to June 2, 2022, under the theme “Transitioning towards more integrated approaches to sustainability, resilience and prosperity for OECS SIDS.”
The ministers and representatives of the OECS Member States focused on building bridges between environmental issues and strengthening links with the economic and social pillars to develop and accelerate sustainable policies and solutions.
In its capacity as Secretariat of the Escazú Agreement, ECLAC participated in the ministerial round table “Promoting/exploring the decisive link between natural and human (eco)systems”, where it emphasized how the regional agreement can promote the inclusion of vulnerable people and considerations gender, sustainable livelihoods, youth engagement and innovation, environmental rights, a just transition, response measures and the One Health approach.
Likewise, ECLAC reported on the progress made in establishing an OECS Environmental Information System, supported through the Enhanced Program of Action on the Escazú Agreement in the Eastern Caribbean signed between ECLAC and the OECS in May 2020.
