Ukraine recommends evacuating the east and south before the cold arrives

kyiv, Aug. 31 (DPA/EP) –

The Government of Ukraine has recommended citizens living in areas in the east and south of the country that are currently the scene of fighting to leave their homes before temperatures drop, fearing that basic services will be lacking during the winter.

For now, kyiv has only determined evacuations in the Donetsk region as mandatory, but the escalation of tensions has led Deputy Prime Minister Irina Vereshchuk to propose displacement also from the Kherson, Zaporizhia and Kharkiv regions.

“Those who can should leave gradually,” he told public television. Vereshchuk has recommended that no one return to these areas before next spring, coinciding with the foreseeable arrival of heat.

Ukraine is preparing in its eastern part for a winter in which heating, electricity or water may not be guaranteed, as a result of the fighting that takes place almost daily between the Ukrainian and Russian forces.

The president, Volodimir Zelenski, has met for the second time in a few days with the leadership of the Army, the Police and the Intelligence services to analyze the evolution of the war operations, which are advancing on different fronts.

Zelensky took advantage of his evening speech to the nation to thank, “on behalf of Intelligence”, the help provided by the population in the south of the country, “especially in Crimea”, by providing information to the authorities.
