MADRID Jan. 11 () –
The president of the United States, Joe Biden, has conveyed to his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodimir Zelensky, that he intends to continue helping Ukraine “in its fight for freedom” in the context of the Russian invasion of the country and he has thanked him for “the support to (their) State and (their) independence and unity by the international community.
During a phone call, Biden reiterated to Zelensky that the United States remains willing to “support Ukraine in its courageous defense against Russian aggression” and stated that it will “increase support for Ukraine in its courageous defense against Russian aggression” to ” strengthen its position vis-à-vis Russia” and so that “its people can achieve the just and lasting peace they deserve.”
“In recent months, the United States has delivered hundreds of thousands of artillery shells, thousands of rockets, hundreds of armored vehicles and other critical capabilities to Ukrainian forces as they defend their freedom from Russian aggression,” the Democrat recalled, celebrating that “President Putin’s war against Ukraine has been a disaster for Russia.”
“Thanks to the courage and determination of the Ukrainian people, and with the support of the United States, Russia has not achieved any of its strategic objectives in Ukraine,” Biden added and this was stated by the White House in a statement.
For his part, the Ukrainian president has conveyed to Biden his “special gratitude” for the “joint efforts that have allowed us to create a global coalition of defenders of freedom and the principles of international peace and security.”
Likewise, he praised the fact that both Democrats and Republicans, as well as both chambers of Congress, have supported from the beginning “the totally justified pressure on Russia for its unprovoked and criminal aggression against (its) state and (its) people.”
Zelensky has stressed, however, “the need to continue strengthening Ukraine’s air shield and protecting lives in Ukrainian cities and towns from Russian terror”, something with which Biden has agreed by emphasizing that “preserving and protecting the Ukraine’s independence is fundamental for all of Europe and for the democratic world.
