US shows support for Pakistan after 61 people were killed in separatist attacks in late August

September 4 (EUROPA PRESS) –

U.S. Department of State spokesman Matthew Miller on Tuesday expressed support for the Pakistani government following the deaths of more than 60 people in the southwest of the country during a wave of attacks by militants from the Baluchistan Liberation Army separatist armed group in late August.

“The United States strongly condemns last week’s deadly attacks targeting security officials and civilians, including the killing of 23 innocent civilians in Musajail. (…) The United States and Pakistan have a shared interest in combating threats to regional security, and we will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with Pakistan in its fight against terrorism,” Miller said.

He also expressed his condolences to the Pakistani people and the families of the victims, who have “suffered enormously at the hands of violent extremist terrorists.”

One of the most serious attacks was the aforementioned one in the Musajail district, where militants forced passengers of buses and trucks to get out of their vehicles near Rarasham, in order to check their identities and execute them.

This is the second such attack in the region in recent months, after nine passengers were forced off a bus in the town of Noshki in April and subsequently killed after gunmen checked their identity documents.
