Tekken 8 resurrects Heihachi Mishima

Throwing the One Ring into Mount Doom may be useful in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, but in Bandai Namco’s Tekken universe, throwing someone into the bowels of an active volcano isn’t the best way to get rid of it. Just ask Heihachi Mishima, who returns after being defeated in combat and pushed into the magma by his son Kazuya Mishima. It seems Tekken 7 wasn’t the end of the Mishima saga after all.

The resurrection of Heihachi Mishima has been announced at EVO 2024 with a trailer presented by Katsuhiro Harada, head of the franchise. After seeing several characters from Tekken 8, the footage introduces us to Heihachi Mishima and reviews an action that is already a family tradition within the Tekken saga: throwing the fallen rival into a volcano. Before Heihachi Mishima, this fate was suffered by Kazuya Mishima himself at the hands of his father. We will see what face Kazuya makes when he sees that his father has returned to life.

As a curiosity, Heihachi Mishima’s presentation has been cheered by attendees at EVO 2024, who have been able to see extra footage recalling the times that Heihachi has been said to have died. According to the Tekken 8 story, he was “completely dead.” It’s not like this is the first character to be revived in a fighting game either. Be that as it may, Heihachi Mishima is alive, he is the third playable character in the current Tekken 8 season pass and his debut is scheduled for autumn.

Heihachi Mishima is one of the great pillars of the Tekken franchise. He has always been there, first as a protagonist and then as an antagonist. Directly or indirectly, this character has participated in all the events of the saga and in principle his end was sealed with Tekken 7. Until now his presence in Tekken 8 was limited to a series of flashbacksbut in the fall it will be physical. We will see what its impact will be on the characters who believed him dead or on those who until now mourned his disappearance.

Tekken 8’s first season pass has yet to reveal a fourth character. Eddy Gordo is now available, Lidia Sobieska will arrive on July 23, Heihachi Mishima will land in autumn and the fourth fighter in winter.
