At least 51 people have died from the floods of recent days in the Sudanese state of the Nile River, in the north of the country, medical sources have confirmed to Al Arabiya.
The Emergency services have also verified substantial material damage: more than 2,500 homes have been completely destroyed and another 500 are partially damaged.
The state authorities have launched a request for help to humanitarian organizations and the Sudanese central government with the aim of providing the necessary support to deal with the situation.
According to United Nations estimates, more than 100,000 people were affected by heavy rains and floods in Sudan last year.
The Sudanese authorities were forced to declare a national state of emergency for a period of three months in 2020 due to torrential rains, which affected more than 650,000 people and destroyed, totally or partially, more than 110,000 houses.
