In Valdivia, the Copa Cervezas de América competition has prepared three tasting sessions with national and international judges to choose the best representative beers from Chile.

In October of this year, Valdivia will be the host city where the award ceremony for the Beers of America Cupin what will be Beers of America Festival. In order to participate in this space, at the Latin American level they are competing to present the best beer.

Chile is precisely in the stage of national competition, and it will be on August 13 when a panel of expert judges will taste more than 396 samples of beers, ciders and mead, from a total of 119 breweries (Sidrerías and Hidromielerías) that registered in Chile’s national competition Beers of America Cup. Of the total number of participants, 30% of the best participants will be classified.

The Cup is held within the framework of the FIC 22-09 project “Strengthening the management of business nodes of regional products”, financed by the Innovation Fund for Competitiveness (FIC) of the Regional Government of Los Ríos and its Regional Council and executed by the San Sebastián University (Valdivia Campus).

About the Cup and welcoming the judges of the contest on behalf of the Regional Government, Alexandra Hott, expressed that having the judges in the region gives us greater reality regarding the ninth Copa de Cervezas de América in Los Ríos. “For us as a Regional Government, it is super important to reveal and promote this type of initiative that allows us to grow in quality, knowledge, positioning and therefore benefit our region, which is precisely what is taking place during these months through this FIC project” he said at the welcome meeting at the Bota Cervecera de Valdivia.

From the San Sebastián University of the city, María Angélica Hildebrandt, Vice Chancellor of the USS Valdivia, said that, “We are enthusiastic about the development that this FIC Strengthening Regional Business Node Management project has had, due to the synergy and participation that is generating, and the experience both for our students in training and, of course, for the local artisanal producers of the beer industry, as has been seen in the colloquiums, workshops and national qualifiers that are currently in development”.

The Vice Chancellor also values ​​that there is a contribution in articulation, by forming a Technical Table with public and private institutions, “what we think has a positive impact on competitiveness and strengthens our Region,” said María Angélica Hildebrandt, Vice Chancellor of the USS Valdivia.

Evaluation

Taste, aromas, body, foam, concordance with the style of the category are some of the aspects to be evaluated by the judges. Leonardo Caiafa, director judge of the Copa Cervezas de América, explains that to evaluate and choose the best beers, they are evaluated according to categories. This year there are 116 participating sub-styles, including ciders and meads. “They will be evaluated according to the style, and based on that, more or less sweetness will be allowed, greater or lesser alcoholic strength, we can know which flavors are allowed and which are not, as well as the inappropriate flavors they present,” he explained.

The director of the Cup, Daniel Trivelli, highlights that the national stages at the Latin American level make the competition more democratic, sustainable and economical, “We are very happy and we hope that many people will join us on Saturday, since the Copa Cervezas de America is a platform to celebrate, gather and strengthen the Latin American beer community”, said Trivelli.

There are 22 breweries in the region that, with self-management, have developed the meeting of local breweries, this Saturday, August 13, from 1:00 p.m. at Los Castaños #30 in Isla Teja; They will also participate in a seminar on the Brewing Ecosystem, they will witness the award ceremony between Argentina and Brazil, and as a grand closing, they will learn about the winning beers with gold, silver and bronze medals from the Chilean National Stage of the Copa Cervezas de América.

Daniel Trivelli, announced that, for Valdivia there are great surprises prepared in the framework of the Beers of America Cup. After the selection of the winning beers from Chile, the second stage of international entries will continue; During the month, the commemorative beer of the 2022 version will be made, tourist circuits by breweries, exhibitions of the regional Craft Brewing Ecosystem, business conferences, among other activities. “We are waiting for you this Saturday to live up close and learn about the best craft beer in the region and the country,” he concluded.
