Zelensky visits Kharkiv and recognizes that the situation is "extremely difficult" in the face of the Russian advance

The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyaffirmed today after meeting with the head of the Army and other military commanders in the city of Kharkiv, the second largest in the country, that the situation is under control in that homonymous region bordering Russia, although he acknowledged that it remains “extremely difficult” for kyiv troops.

“Today the situation in the Kharkiv region is usually controlled, our troops inflict substantial losses on the enemy. But this address remains extremely difficultwe strengthen our units,” Zelensky said on his social networks.

Zelensky has also highlighted the high number of casualties that their troops are supposedly inflicting on the Russian Army.

Russia launched a cross-border offensive on the north of the Kharkiv region on Friday last week that has managed to penetrate about eight kilometers into Ukrainian territory, according to the Institute for the Study of War Washington (ISW) and threatens the Ukrainian town of Vovchansk, the most important in the border area.

Unofficial Ukrainian sources have reported the seizure of a dozen small towns in the area by Russia during this week of offensive.

According to the Ukrainian Army itself, Russian forces are trying to take Vovchansk, at the northern end of which fighting takes place between troops from both sides. kyiv assured this Thursday that Ukraine has managed to thwart Russia’s plans to consolidate in that part of the municipality. Ukraine also claims to have stopped the Russian advance in other areas of that front. Russia claims, however, that they have already entered Vovchansk.

Russia launches this offensive on two different axes within the same border area. One of them in the direction of Vovchansk and another towards the town of Liptsi, both located a few kilometers from the regional capital, Kharkiv.

Zelensky has been informed of the situation on both axes.
