The President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, has thanked Canada for the announcement of a new shipment of military aid worth 370 million euros after the surprise visit to Kiev by the country’s Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau.
“I am personally grateful to Prime Minister –Trudeau– and to all Canadians for their unwavering and unequivocal support for our freedom,” said the Ukrainian president, according to a presidential statement.
Zelensky has mentioned the “special importance” of 155-caliber artillery ammunition, as well as the training of Ukrainian pilots to use F-16 fighters, and has reported “progress” in talks on Ukraine’s NATO membership.
The Ukrainian president has assured that Ukraine “is ready” to help Canada put out the fires because of its international sense of “helping each other”, and has reproached “certain international organizations” for their indifference to “ecocide”, in reference to to the floods caused by the destruction of the dam of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, of which Kiev and Moscow blame each other.
On the other hand, Zelenski has affirmed that Russia “does everything possible” so that the victims of “ecocide” are “the greatest possible”, and has denounced the bombardments of the Russian Army on different evacuation points for civilians in Kherson.
According to the document signed by Zelenski and Trudeau, since February 2022 Canada has allocated more than 8 billion dollars (about 7.7 billion euros) in aid to Ukraine, including tanks, air defense systems and artillery.
Similarly, the declaration confirms Canada’s support for “Ukraine’s initiative to achieve a just and sustainable peace based on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine”, according to the principles of the peace formula proposed by Kiev, which contemplates the withdrawal of Russian forces from the territories it describes as occupied.
