The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmitro Kuleba, has presented this Wednesday its resignation through a letter, as announced by the bossand of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk.
This decision coincides with the major restructuring of the government that Volodymyr Zelensky is preparing to strengthen it and make it more efficient in managing it in the context of the war. These changes could be announced in the next few hours.
Kuleba, 43, has been foreign minister since 2020 and has led Ukrainian diplomacy throughout the war against Russia, which began on February 24, 2022.
Already this Tuesday Three other ministers resigned: Oleksandr Kamishin, head of Strategic Industries, Denis Maliuska, who was in charge of Justice, and Ruslan Strilets, head of the Environment and Natural Resources portfolio.
These resignations have also been joined by that of the head of the State Property Fund, Vitali Koval. This resignation comes in the midst of a privatization process which seeks to fill Ukraine’s battered public coffers, which are heavily dependent on international financial aid due to the crisis caused by the Russian invasion.
The resignation of these officials comes after several weeks of rumors about an imminent change in the Ukrainian executive. This reshuffle will take place in one of the worst moments of the war so far this year, with Russian forces resuming their offensive on energy facilities on the eve of winter, and after one of the deadliest attacks in recent months, this Tuesday in Poltava, in southern Ukraine, which has left at least fifty dead.
Prime Minister Denis Shmigal has already announced a few days ago that Zelensky’s intention is reduce the number of ministries to cut costs and to make the Government’s work more agile and efficient in the midst of the economic and financial crisis that Ukraine is experiencing due to the war with Russia.
