Ukrainian President confirms death of child in intensive care unit during Russian attacks on hospital

11 Jul. () –

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Democratic and Republican leaders of both chambers of the U.S. Congress on Wednesday in Washington to stress the importance of financial support for the Ukrainian military, especially since the intensification of “missile terror” against its cities and vital infrastructure in the country.

“(Zelensky) spoke in detail about the situation on the front lines, the urgent needs of Ukrainian soldiers and the consequences of the recent massive Russian attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine. He noted that increased US budget support is important for the country’s economic stability, and he stressed the transparent use of aid,” he said before the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Republican Mike Johnson, who for months blocked the sending of this type of aid.

The Ukrainian leader, however, expressed his gratitude for the support shown, and they discussed strengthening cooperation between the two countries, expectations for the NATO Summit currently being held in the United States, and the implementation of the reforms necessary for Ukraine to be able to join the European Union and NATO.

Zelensky also met with a Senate delegation, which included Democratic Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, whom he awarded with the Order of Merit for their “unwavering support” for the country in the context of the Russian invasion.

Commenting on the situation on the front lines, the Ukrainian president confirmed the death of one of the children who was in intensive care during the Russian attacks on Monday, which hit a children’s hospital, killing 43 people and wounding 200.
