Zelensky highlights progress in Lyman and condemns attack in Zaporizhia

Ukrainian President Volodímir Zelenski reported this Saturday of “significant results” in the midst of the counteroffensive that kyiv is carrying out to recover territory from the hands of Russian soldiers. The president’s statement comes after Serhiy Haidai, head of the Lugansk regional military administration, indicated that “more than five thousand Russian soldiers are surrounded” by Ukrainian troops in Lyman and also pointed out that the Russians addressed “to their superiors a request to withdraw, but was refused”.

The official added that, when Lyman is released, he will begin the process of vacating the Lugansk region and added that Moscow’s soldiers “try to break through or surrender”, this because, according to him, almost all the routes of escape or Ammunition supply lines remain blocked by kyiv.

Meanwhile, Rodion Miroshnik, Moscow’s ambassador to the self-proclaimed Lugansk republic, reported that units from the Southern Military District have attacked Ukrainian positions “in order to unblock the Lyman encirclement.”

The official stressed that the region remains completely “under the control of the allied forces,” adding that pro-Russian troops continue to patrol the city.

Death toll from attack in Zaporizhia rises to 30

In turn, President Zelensky condemned the attack that hit a civilian convoy seeking to leave the Zaporizhia region for territories under Russian control. The head of state confirmed that “there are 30 dead. Almost a hundred wounded and injured. The Russian military knew where their missiles were going to hit. Inhuman people did this.”

Previously, the head of the National Police, Ihor Klymenko, had reported through Facebook that the dead amounted to 25 to 30 and that the injured had been counted at 88. In addition, he stated that among the deceased there was “an 11-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy” and that “a three-year-old girl was injured”.

Ukrainian media highlighted that the convoy sought to provide humanitarian aid and pick up relatives residing in occupied areas. That’s when the Russian missiles hit.

The authorities reported this Saturday that they continue to collect evidence at the scene of the events to open a new investigation against Russia for war crimes.

Ukrainian state denounces the arrest and disappearance of the head of the Zaporizhia nuclear plant

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian state-owned energy company Energoatom denounced the arrest and disappearance of Ihor Murashov, general director of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant.
