30 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron have discussed by phone the steps to follow with a view to the imminent start of the spring campaign in the Ukrainian war, especially the months of May and June.

According to a communiqué from the Ukrainian Presidency, Zelensky “reported in detail on the situation at the front and the prospects for its development” during more than an hour of conversation with the French president.

In it, Zelensky also explained the “priority needs of Ukraine’s defense forces” after several weeks asking its international allies for more military equipment, and ammunition in particular, to defend against Russian attacks.

Likewise, both leaders discussed the preparations for the NATO Summit in Vilnius (Lithuania) on July 11 and 12, “where firm and concrete decisions will be made on security guarantees for our country and the procedure to invite Ukraine to NATO”, according to the presidential statement.

It should be remembered that the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Dimitro Kuleba, pointed out this week that if Ukraine manages to be accepted at the Vilnius summit it would be a “historic” event, although he has acknowledged that they are satisfied with less ambitious steps, such as a membership. “It would be an achievement,” he said, according to the Ukrinform news agency.

“Our ambition is to go as far as possible to achieve this goal. If we were accepted into NATO already at the Vilnius summit it would be completely historic, but even if we take a significant step towards membership, we will consider it an achievement,” Kuleba said. .
