Dec. 29 () –
Ukraine’s President Volodimir Zelensky has described the post-hostilities reconstruction of Ukraine as the biggest contemporary economic project in Europe during his annual speech to the kyiv parliament.
“The reconstruction of Ukraine after the hostilities is another component of justice. It is already clear that it will be the largest economic project of our time in Europe,” the Ukrainian leader said on Wednesday, as reported by the Ukrainian Presidency.
As he has recognized, the entire territory of the State needs the reconstruction of infrastructure, energy, the social sphere and other facilities that do not meet security requirements.
On the other hand, Zelenski has affirmed that it is difficult to calculate the amount of resources that Ukraine will need after the war but has recognized the priority of the reconstruction of the companies.
“It is certain that we must give priority to the restoration of companies that were in Ukraine or that came to Ukraine during the war, and those that left the Russian market during the war,” the president detailed.
In addition, the head of the Ukrainian Executive has reiterated his interest in recovering the regions of Donbas and Crimea.
“We have to raise from the ruins the territory where the Russian invaders arrived after February 24. In the same way, we will restore normal life in Donbas and Crimea, which were illegally occupied in 2014 and which the occupiers brought to disaster during the time that has elapsed”, Zelensky specified.
Also, Zelensky has set a goal by 2023 for the release of all Ukrainians who have been held by Russia as prisoners of war since the start of the invasion in February. In total, 1,456 people were released by Ukraine, according to the president’s statement.
