Zelensky calls for speed in international responses against Russia as Moscow takes advantage of the "doubts" of the West

Jan. 18 () –

The President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, spoke electronically this Wednesday at the World Economic Forum in Davos (Switzerland), where he articulated a speech based on the need for the international community to act more quickly against Russia, since Moscow takes advantage of the “doubts” of the West.

“Russia took less than a second to start a war. It took days for the world to impose the first sanctions in this regard. The time that the free world spends thinking, the terrorist state spends killing,” the Ukrainian president denounced during an intervention that has been preceded by a minute of silence for the death of the Minister of the Interior, Denis Monastirski.

Although Zelenski has referred to the tragic helicopter accident that this Wednesday claimed the lives of Monastirski and another fifteen people, including children, he has not delved into the subject, although he has quickly linked it to the Russian attack on a residential building in Dnipro last weekend.

“I ask you to honor the memory of all those lost by Ukraine with a minute of silence. Just one minute (…) Ukraine is experiencing thousands of these minutes. Among them there are three on January 14. Three minutes is the time that It took a Russian rocket to travel hundreds of kilometres, hit a residential building in Dnipro and kill at least 45 people,” he said.

Following these words, and following his analogy with time and the need to take action more quickly to help Ukraine win the war against Russia, Zelenski celebrated that “all” the quick decisions that kyiv has taken have had a positive result, alluding at this point to the opening of borders with Europe or the agreement for the export of cereals.

“Not only Ukraine, but the whole world needs exactly this rhythm of decisions and actions. The world hesitated in 2014, when Russia did not hesitate to occupy Crimea. The world hesitated in 2022, when Russia did not hesitate to launch a full-scale war. The world must not doubt today or ever again,” the Ukrainian president said.

It is in this call for speed that Zelensky has insisted that Russian air strikes must have been preceded by the provision of air defense systems to Ukraine; the invasion of Russian tanks, preceded by the supply of Western tanks; and the Russian attack on international security and peace, preceded by the restoration of security and peace in Ukraine.

Finally, Zelenski recalled that in his previous appearance before the Davos Forum, the way in which to end the COVID-19 pandemic was addressed, an issue that has already been overcome and, according to his speech, replaced by the concerns that generated by Russia and the decisions of its president, Vladimir Putin.

“The world was fighting against COVID-19. It fought and won. Now the world is fighting against Putin. And three years from now in Davos, we will talk about new challenges and threats. What will this mean? That we will definitely defeat the threat current,” he assured.

“The world has overcome Nazism, apartheid, pandemics, indifference to climate change, financial crises and tension in the Kremlin. The world will win again (…) But it’s time to do it faster,” he said. settled the Ukrainian president.
