June 24 () –
The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, asked this Monday to implement measures that would allow “purging” the service in charge of protecting senior government officials after the alleged infiltration of alleged Russian spies who sought to carry out a plan to assassinate him.
This has been communicated to the new head of the service in question, Oleksii Morozov, who has been appointed after dismantling the previous plot following information from the State Security Service (SBU), the Ukrainian Intelligence, as reported by the president in a message in your Telegram account.
Last May, Intelligence sources indicated that two colonels were part of this plot to kill Zelensky and other senior government officials in an attempt to “give a gift to the Russian president, Vladimir Putin.” Among the group’s possible targets was also the head of Ukrainian Military Intelligence, Kirilo Budanov.
Zelensky has welcomed Colonel Morozov as the new head of the protection service and has asserted that the main objective is to ensure that “only those who see their future linked to that of Ukraine will be able to work for the agency.” Furthermore, he clarified that the Administration “needs to modernize its structure and operations to meet current requirements in times of war. We need a new approach without falling into Sovietism,” he clarified.
“Of course, we must cleanse the Administration of all those who choose anything other than Ukraine or who seek to discredit the State Security Office. Your task is the security of state institutions, so I thank those who carry out their work with the most absolute integrity,” he said.
