Ukraine’s President Volodimir Zelensky has called on Latin American countries to support the peace plan proposed by the Ukrainian government and its adherence to sanctions against Russia during a video conference at the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
“We have proposed a peace plan and we would like all states to unite around it. Our troops are driving out the enemy with weapons, and politicians and societies in other countries can support us in various peace initiatives. We want Latin America to one, and we want Argentina to join. It is very important,” Zelenski explained, according to a statement.
In addition, the president has emphasized the need for Latin American countries to join the sanctions against Russia.
“The Russian leadership must feel that they are isolated. They should not be welcome in some African countries and they should not be able to do business with Latin America. It is unacceptable to shake the hands of Russian leaders stained with blood (…) Here in Latin America you can take positions more active”, he added.
The president has emphasized that the points of the plan “are specific and are related to overcoming all the crises experienced by the Ukrainians as a result of Russian aggression.”
Zelensky has asked these countries for political support for Ukraine, and has assured that the end of the war will come with the return of all the occupied Ukrainian territory and with the trial of those responsible for war crimes.
“We definitely did not want this war. Ukrainians are being tested, and it is a great tragedy. War does not only mean losses. But in order not to lose everything we have, we need to win. That is why we started fighting , so as not to be destroyed. We did not enter Russian territory; they have entered our houses and have killed and raped children,” the Ukrainian president said.
