September 21 () –

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday ratified a law previously signed by parliament, which increases the military budget by 500 billion hryvnias (more than 10.8 billion euros).

The proposal was put to a vote in the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada, the unicameral parliament, in the middle of the week, where just under 300 of the 450 deputies that make up the chamber voted in favour of the measure, according to the Ukrainian agency UNIAN.

According to Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov, the funds will be used to pay servicemen and to increase purchases of weapons and military equipment for troops deployed at the front.

War broke out in Ukraine in February 2022, when Russian President Vladimir Putin gave the order to invade his neighbouring country. Since then, the conflict has developed without any apparent solution of continuity and has experienced a certain stalemate.
