The Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenski, has assured this Tuesday that he has not seen, for the moment, “any official document” on the peace plan announced by the head of Chinese diplomacy, Wang Yi, during his appearance at the Conference of Munich security on Saturday.
Zelenski has indicated, during a joint press conference with the Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, who is currently in Ukraine, that he is aware that there was an “informal communication” in this regard, although for the moment he has said that he has not read “no official document”.
“I think it is important to have a position,” the Ukrainian president explained, adding that Kiev is interested in peace initiatives from all states, including European, African, Indian and Chinese states, according to the Ukrinform news agency.
Wang, Chinese state councilor, announced Saturday from Munich that Beijing is finalizing preparations for a “peace initiative” to end the war in Ukraine under the principles of the United Nations Charter, in an effort to clear up the apparent “return to the Cold War mentality” that reigns among the world’s superpowers, in his opinion.
“Trust between the great world powers is faltering,” he declared during his appearance, the first by a Chinese diplomat of his caliber at the forum since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In this sense, he stressed that the sanctions policy is not a solution as it becomes an obstacle to dialogue as the main tool in conflict resolution. “After all, peace must be given a chance,” she said.
