Zelensky affirms that before the end of the year there is a "real opportunity" to move towards peace

MADRID 9 Oct. () –

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, stated this Wednesday that before the end of the year there is a “real opportunity” to move towards peace due to the current conditions on the battlefield.

“In October, November and December we have a real opportunity to move the situation towards long-term peace and stability. The situation on the battlefield creates an opportunity to make this decision,” Zelensky said in Dubrovnik, Croatia. during the Ukrainian summit with Southeast European countries.

Zelensky has once again insisted on the Ukrainian peace plan to end the conflict. He assures that if it is applied in its entirety it will provide the rest of the countries with the “stability” necessary to counter any Russian threat.

“When the plan is fully implemented, Russia will lose its ability to threaten Europe,” he said. Said document, he explained, will be ready in November, reports the Ukrinform news agency.

Among the countries that would be in danger if Russia achieves its objectives in Ukraine are the Baltics and the Balkans, said Zelensky, for whom the “Ukrainian resistance” is a “guarantee” for the stability of both regions. “We have to make sure that Russia does not have the strength so that it cannot threaten others,” he stressed.

This is the third summit between Ukraine and the countries of the region after the Russian invasion. At the previous meeting in February in Albania, those present ratified an agreement in which they reaffirmed their support for the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as its needs during the war.

On the sidelines, Zelensky has met with the Croatian Prime Minister, Andrej Plenkovic, with whom he has signed a series of long-term cooperation agreements on defense, but also to participate in the reconstruction of Ukraine, or in the recovery of Ukrainian soldiers and children.
