MADRID Dec. 10 () –
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has accused the Russian Army of deliberately attacking a convoy of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), as it passed through the province of Zaporizhia, where the largest nuclear power plant in Europe is located. , controlled by Russia since almost the beginning of the war.
“A Russian drone attacked an IAEA convoy, which has the task of guaranteeing nuclear security throughout the world,” the Ukrainian president said through his Telegram account, taking the opportunity to denounce that Russia “continues to illegally occupy” the Zaporizhia power station.
“One of the vehicles in the convoy was damaged. Fortunately there were no victims or victims,” he reported, sharing an image of the car that suffered damage.
“This attack clearly demonstrates how Russia deals with everything related to International Law, international institutions and security,” said Zelensky, who was convinced that the Russian Army was aware of the attack. “They knew exactly what they were doing,” he charged.
In that sense, the Ukrainian president has claimed that this attack must be responded to clearly and decisively by both the IAEA and other international actors since “silence or inaction will only encourage more crimes.”
Shortly after the outbreak of war in eastern Ukraine in February 2022, Russian troops managed to take control of the Zaporizhia power plant, the largest in Europe. Since then, its surroundings have been the scene of fighting and the parties have accused each other of putting the facilities at risk.
