The President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, has been the first leader to be received this Thursday by the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, at the summit of the European Political Community (EPC), which is being held at the Mimi Castle, about 50 kilometers from the Moldovan capital of Chisinau and which is intended to be a “geopolitical declaration in itself” of the unity of the European continent against Russia, with the presence of almost 50 leaders.
Zelenski, whose presence was unconfirmed for security reasons, arrived at the meeting after 09:30 (08:30 in Spain) and walked the red carpet that leads to the castle without making any statements until he was received by Sandu and then accompanied to the interior of the castle.
Minutes before, the Moldovan president had expressed her “pride” for hosting such an important event for the European continent and as a sign of “support” for Ukraine and the need to “restore peace on the continent”; while she has stressed that “Ukraine is protecting us all and we are very grateful.”
Sandu has also taken the opportunity to underline his country’s ambition to join the European Union, something for which he has asked the leaders of the Twenty-seven to take the step to open negotiations “as soon as possible”, with the aim that their community club membership possible “before the end of the decade.
