Eiji Aonuma, producer of The Legend of Zelda franchise, has been commissioned to offer a demonstration of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom throughout which new information about the game has been discovered, including the new abilities to which you will have access Link. Aonuma has also announced that development on the title has wrapped up and confirmed that Nintendo will be releasing a OLED switch model with motifs from Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The game will be available on May 12 and the console will hit stores on April 28.

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom features a “huge world” that isn’t exactly the same as Breath of The Wild’s because it “has changed in so many ways,” the producer says. One of the novelties of this Hyrule is that it also covers the sky. “You will see that there are land masses floating in the heights: we call them ‘sky islands’”, explains Aonuma. To get to one of these islands there are several options. One of them is to locate a rock that has fallen from them, climb on top of it, and use recoil, one of Link’s new abilities, to trace his previous movement.

During the trailer with gameplay It doesn’t take long for Aonuma to encounter a new type of enemy: a golem. By fighting him we discover that objects can be broken (and that a branch is not the best weapon). Fortunately, Link has a new ability called Combination to fuse objects together. With a branch and a rock he forms a hammer. The combination allows objects to be merged to create weapons with all kinds of effects. “If you experiment with the combination ability, you can do everything,” says Aonuma. Two weapons or arrows can also be fused with the materials in the saddlebag to launch elemental attacks among others.

Item matching has proven to be a very powerful tool and skill that will change the way players deal with enemies. “In the previous game, powerful weapons were obtained by defeating powerful opponents. But in this one, you can get useful weapons even by combining the weakest weapon with something else,” adds Aonuma. The combination also works for exploration. For example, used in conjunction with ultrahand, another new ability that allows you to attach objects, the producer has built a raft. Vehicles we’ve seen in other game trailers have been made this way.

The last ability that Aonuma has shown has been infiltration. “If you are somewhere that has a roof, you can go through it and move up,” explains the producer.
