YouTube will no longer let you play videos if you use AdBlock, testing begins

YouTube Premium subscribers pay a monthly fee in order to get rid of ads and access some other features. But some users use ad blockers -plugins or extensions that block advertisements while browsing.

The move is not new among other publishers, a Google spokesperson told The Verge. However, some users report that YouTube is starting to warn them to disable their ad block if they want to continue enjoying videos on the platform. And the measure becomes effective from the third video.

“We take disabling playback very seriously, and will only disable it if viewers ignore repeated requests to allow ads on YouTube,” Google’s Oluwa Falodun told the specialized site.

On Twitter, some users are already reporting the implementation of this policy: “Youtube allows you to watch 3 videos before completely disabling the video player if it detects adblock,” says one of them.

On the warning screen, the terms and conditions on Ad blokers appear, where YouTube states that the ads allow content to be kept free for billions of users around the world. In addition to that, to watch videos without ads, there is the option to use YouTube Premium and that, in turn, helps creators continue to generate income.
