YouTube has updated its policies about videos that talk about eating disordersand it is that although the platform has been eliminating content that glorifies or promotes eating disorders as something good for a long time, videos about disorders that can be imitated will now also be banned.
Some of the behaviors that will be eliminated include purging after eating or extreme calorie restriction, in addition to prohibiting certain behaviors such as bullying based on the weight of the victim, for example.
Additionally, YouTube has announced that videos that are focused on recovery from these disorders or include sufficient documentary, educational, scientific or artistic content, will have age restrictions and/or a crisis resource panel, something that is probably similar to the help recommendations that are displayed when searching for suicide-related content.
The age restrictions will also be based on the premise of not encouraging minors to explore any of these behaviors, so that the aforementioned content, which is categorized as EDSA, as well as content that talks about harmful behavior in the context of recovery, It will have age restrictions, something important to avoid imitation of such behaviors.
