Youtube has begun to inject ads on the server side – that is, directly into the transmission or playback of content – a technique that renders advertising blocking tools useless and represents a new movement in its open fight against this type of programs.
Google began implementing measures against the use of ad blocking programs in May of last year, preventing free accounts that used these programs, such as AdBlock either AdGuard.
Months later, these actions intensified to end up blocking the use of the player after three videos in a row in case users used these programs to avoid advertising. Soon, Google extended its fight against the use of ad blockers to third-party applications.
The most recent thing that it has incorporated into its operation is to jump directly to the end of the videos in those cases in which it is detected that the user has an ad blocker activated, as 9to5Google advanced a few days ago.
The company therefore continues to work on new ways to avoid the use of ad blockers on its streaming content platform. This has been confirmed by the development team behind the SponsorBlock advertising blocking system.
According to them shared on X (formerly Twitter) its creators YouTube would have begun testing a new technique consisting of injecting server-side ads. “This means that the ad is added directly to the video stream,” he explained in his profile.
Users of the platform have already discovered this new technique for evading blockers in their accounts, as they have shared on Reddit. However, this feature has not been implemented at a general level.
It is worth remembering that, as an alternative, YouTube offers ad-free content through a YouTube Premium subscriptionwhich offers tools such as downloading videos and viewing them offline or playing them in the background while using other applications.
