You can now transcribe voice notes on WhatsApp

The app noted that transcriptions will be rolled out worldwide in the coming weeks. The languages available in the first instance will be Spanish, English, Portuguese, Russian and Hindi, although WhatsApp said it plans to add more in the coming months.

How to activate message transcription?

  • In WhatsApp, open Settings.
  • Tap Chats.
  • Turn on Voicemail Transcriptions.
  • When you turn on Voicemail Transcriptions, select your transcription language.

Once you activate the function, to transcribe a voice message, press and hold the message and tap “transcribe.”
If you have activated the function and want to remove it, you must follow the same steps but select “deactivate”.

It may take a few seconds for voicemail transcription to appear. If you receive an error message that says “Transcript not available,” it could be for the following reasons:

  • The transcription language settings do not match the voice message language settings.
  • Some words may not be recognized due to background noise.
  • Voice message language is not supported.

Of course, WhatsApp noted that the voice message transcripts may not be accurate.
