Yoon Suk Yeol assures that Pyongyang "is ready" to carry out a nuclear test "at any time"

July 22 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of South Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol, has assured this Friday that Pyongyang “is ready” to carry out a nuclear test “at any moment”.

When asked about the forecast of the United States Department of State, which stated that North Korea could carry out a nuclear test before the end of the month, the South Korean president assured that his neighbor was “completely ready” to carry it out even during his investiture. , the South Korean agency Yonhap has reported.

“We believe that not only at the end of this month, but since my inauguration, (North Korea) is fully ready and in a position to do it whenever it decides,” Yoon said.

These statements came days after the director of the country’s intelligence service, Kim Kyou Hyun, made an unscheduled visit to Washington, sparking speculation that he had met with US intelligence to coordinate his response to a possible provocation by North Korea.

It is not the first time that South Korea has warned of the imminent launch of nuclear tests by North Korea, as experts believe the country may be preparing for its first nuclear test since September 2017.

Since Yoon took office in May, Pyongyang has carried out a series of short- to long-range missile tests, and is now set to carry out what would be its seventh nuclear test.

Last June, the defense ministers of Japan, the United States and South Korea announced an agreement to resume joint military exercises to “search for and track ballistic missiles” in order to serve as a deterrent against North Korea.
