Yolanda Díaz: “Spain is more than a debate between two men”

The second vice president of the Government, Yolanda Díaz, has criticized this Monday the image that Pedro Sánchez wants to project with six face-to-face debates with the president of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo. “Spain is more than a debate between two men,” she said after the president offered the opposition leader a chain of exchanges on television ahead of the campaign for the general elections on July 23.

“We look at a wide, diverse Spain. The one from the year 2023, the one from the future. It is not reduced to a debate between two men; it’s more. I believe that the women and men of our country want more”, he defended at the event ‘European Funds III: Spain, for global leadership in the green and digital economy’ organized by elDiario.es, which included the participation of the president of the Government, of the vice presidents Nadia Calviño and Teresa Ribera; and other members of the Government.

The Minister of Labor dedicated the final part of her speech at this Saturday’s event to political news, marked by the electoral advance for a month and a half. In the same forum, hours before, Sánchez had proposed up to six face to face with the opposition leader to reinforce the idea that his party has been carrying since last week that the next elections are played in a bipartisan key. “There are only two possible presidents, but there are other important forces at the national level and that must be expressed in debates in which the president will also participate. These debates are compatible and complementary, because they will complete the information of the citizens”, said Sánchez to explain a proposal that the PP has been quick to reject.

But Yolanda Díaz, who had already rejected the idea of a debate only between two with a tweet in the morning, has warned this Monday that “bipartisanship is the past.” “Spain is not summed up today in a photo of Pedro Sánchez and Feijoo. The Spain of 2023, the Spain of the future, is not reduced to a debate between two men. It is about advancing from plurality, this is what the future of our country is about. Only with plurality will there be a coalition government. Bipartisanship is the past, only with that plurality will we win the country”, has redounded the second vice president of the Government, who this week is immersed in the negotiations of her political platform, Sumar, with Podemos and the rest of the parties that she intends to group in the same progressive coalition.

While these negotiations continue, Sumar’s team has revealed this Monday the incorporation into the campaign of the party of the former deputy of Podemos Pablo Bustinduy. “Every day we are more. Today we have been lucky to announce that we have an honest, intelligent person who is committed to our country like Pablo Bustinduy. I want to thank you ”, he said during his speech. “The people of our country are waiting for us. We are working tirelessly to give Spanish society peace of mind and certainty. Sumar is not just an agreement between parties, but it is a new project to recover the future for our sons and daughters”, the minister said.
