The second vice president, Yolanda Díaz, announced this Monday her resignation as leader of Sumar after the electoral setback that her party has suffered after the European elections this Sunday

This was stated during a public statement in streaming after the Sumar Executive meeting that lasted more than three hours. Of course, sources from the party emphasize that she will continue as Minister of Labor and second vice president of the Government, in addition to continuing as president of the Sumar parliamentary group in Congress.

In this way, she formalizes her resignation as general coordinator of the training after being elected in March of this year for the position in the first state assembly of the training and assumes in first person the failure of the Europeans.

The disastrous balance in the 9J elections has opened a strong crisis in the left-wing coalition, with critical voices in Más Madrid such as the leader Eduardo Fernández Rubiño who demanded to assume responsibilities in the Sumar leadership.

Today, the IU leader has stated that after the disappointing result of Sumar, which leaves them out of the European Parliament for the first time in their history, he has proclaimed that “any project without organization is ephemeral.”

THE RESULT IS “MY RESPONSIBILITY AND I TAKE RESPONSIBILITY”

During his speech, Díaz stated that these elections have served as a “mirror” and that citizens do not make “wrongs” when they vote or when they decide not to vote.

“It is always our responsibility. And in this case, and without a doubt, it is my responsibility. The citizens have spoken and I am going to take charge,” she explained to explain that she decides to leave the position of federal coordinator.

Likewise, he has pointed out that it is necessary for the space to open a collective debate within Sumar, as well as in its allied organizations, and with his resignation “he opens that path.”

“In these months I feel that I have not done the things that I should have done and the things that I know how to do best. The citizens, without a doubt, have perceived this,” the second vice president emphasized.

THE SUMAR COORDINATING GROUP WILL PROPOSE THE RELEASE

To fill Díaz’s vacancy, as explained by sources from the training, the Sumar Promoter Group will be convened soon, the highest body of the training made up of 80 members, which according to the statutes will have to propose a new general coordinator and must be approved by simple majority.

The idea is that this process can be convened in one or two weeks to avoid prolonging the training to be headless for longer.
