This is how he advanced it during his appearance in the Senate Labor Committee, to present the general lines of his department for this legislature, to highlight that the revocation is pertinent for those who “are far from the exemplarity” that these medals require, in allusion to these two cases.

“We cannot have any complicity with people linked to corruption. They do not deserve these medals,” Díaz emphasized and, during his speech, explained that these files of withdrawal of medals awarded to people who “are no longer honorable” and constitute a ” bad example” for the country.

Under this guideline, Díaz Ferrán, who led the CEOE and was convicted in several sentences, will be stripped of this award. For example, he was sentenced to five years and six months in prison for crimes of asset seizure, fraudulent bankruptcy, integration into a criminal group and money laundering, in addition to paying a fine of 1.2 million euros for this. last illicit by emptying the assets of the Marsans Group, which he then directed.

He was also convicted of misappropriation of money from clients of the Marsans Group and for the fraudulent use of the 'black' cards of the former Caja Madrid.

In addition, it will affect the former director of Novacaixagalicia Fernández Gayoso, convicted of the improper collection of early retirement payments (valued at 22 million) at the top of the entity, which had to be rescued with 1,162 million euros.

In 2022, the Government approved a royal decree to modify the regulations for granting medals and plaques for merit in Work, to withdraw them from persons or entities whose career was shown to be incompatible with the exemplarity required by this award.

ALREADY PROPOSED A BATTERY OF ANTI-CORRUPTION MEASURES

With the emergence of the 'Koldo' case, the leader of Sumar has already advanced several anti-corruption measures, such as creating a prevention agency against fraud and corrupt plots that her group in Congress has promoted by registering a bill.

He has also promised that they will propose a “comprehensive and severe” law against corruption, together with other measures such as the prohibition of pardons for those convicted of crimes related to corruption, the regulation of lobbies, changing the regulations of the investigation commissions to strengthen their functions and limit the capacity of public officials to situations related to the exercise of their office, among others.

This morning in the Senate he insisted that “it is not enough to air” corruption but that it must be “prevented and combated”, assuming, for example, all the recommendations of the Group of States against Corruption (GRECO).

Of course, she has insisted that she will not be caught in this drift of turning politics into a “spectacle” and that the 'And you more' in the face of corruption is not valid for citizens, who increasingly feel more disaffection towards corruption. politics.

WITHDRAWAL OF THE MEDALS FROM FRANCO AND LEADERS OF THE DICTATORSHIP

It is not the first time that Díaz undertakes the withdrawal of medals for Labor merit, given that in July of last year he brought to the Council of Ministers the approval of the suppression of the granting of this merit to Francisco Franco and other prominent officials of the dictatorship.

At the time, he explained that this revocation of said distinction was applied under article 42 of the Democratic Memory Law. “The only work that the people from whom we are withdrawing this merit today have done is having worked to violate and violate human rights and trample democracy in our country,” he emphasized then.

Specifically, the medal was withdrawn from former soldiers and ministers of the Franco regime such as José Luis Arrese y Magra, José León de Carranza Gómez-Pablos, José María Fernández-Ladreda y Menéndez Valdés, Francisco Franco Bahamonde, José Antonio Girón de Velasco, Enrique Plá y Deniel, Jesús Romeo Gorría, José Solís Ruiz and Juan Yagüe Blanco.
