Yemen’s Houthi rebels on Wednesday described as a “terrorist crime” the attack that resulted in the death of the leader of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), Ismail Haniyeh, during his visit to Iran on the occasion of the inauguration of Iranian President Masud Pezeshkian in Tehran.
Mohamed Ali al-Houthi, a senior member of the political wing of a rebel group that controls Sanaa and much of the north of the country and is backed by Iran, said in a message on his account on the social network X that it was an “atrocious crime” that “violates international laws.”
The Houthis have been launching attacks since November against Israeli territory and ships in the Red Sea, which they accuse of having some kind of connection with the country following the offensive unleashed against Gaza after the attacks carried out on October 7 by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).
They have also attacked US and British strategic assets in response to the bombings of Yemen by these countries, an intervention that Washington and London have based on their desire to guarantee the safety of navigation in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean.
