Video game controllers have had some great ideas, but they’ve been scrapped as less useful than we’d hoped. However, that doesn’t mean that good concepts don’t deserve a second chance. It seems that ASUS thinks so, since they will release an Xbox controller with an OLED screen in the style of the SEGA Dreamcast.
As part of its CES 2023 announcements, ASUS unveiled its first officially licensed controller for Xbox. It is a controller for Xbox Series X | S that has a design very similar to the controller that comes with the console, but with a very important difference.

As it turns out, ASUS decided to implement an OLED screen right above the Xbox guide button. But what good is this screen? Don’t expect full game connectivity like the Wii U Remote. Rather, it’s for switching between configuration profiles; check the charge level and check the status of the microphone.

One control with several connectivity options
It is worth mentioning that the screen is not the only thing that makes this control striking. As it turns out, it’s also the first Xbox controller with tri-mode-style connectivity. This means you can connect via Bluetooth, a 2.4GHz low latency mode, or via USB-C. The control is compatible with Xbox Series X | S in a wired way, but its wireless functions can be used on PC, mobile phones and even televisions.
The controller also has an ESS DAC, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a mute button. So, it has everything to make those who are looking for the best audio happy when playing games.
The bad news is that, so far, ASUS has not shared any more news about this controller. So, we do not know how much it will cost or when it will debut. Of course, its launch is expected to be in the first quarter of 2023.
What do you think about this new? Would you like to have such a control or do you not see much sense in it? Tell us in the comments.
