Xbox continues to dominate in Mexico but loses market to PlayStation

The analysis firm The Competitive Intelligence Unit (CIU) presented the results of its study entitled Gaming in Mexico in 2022: #JugarNoEsCosaDeNiƱoswhich collected data from the video game industry in Mexico to account for its status in 2022. Initially, it is revealed that the gamer scene in Mexico is made up of 66.5 million in age groups from 6 years onwards, an increase of 3.7% compared to 2021.

In terms of business, the study reports that the gaming industry in Mexico generated income in 2022 for $35,884 million pesos, an increase of 0.7% compared to the previous year.

Now, in terms of gaming preferences, the Mexican market is distributed as follows: 82.1% play on mobile devices, followed by 20.4% on consoles, 8.3% on PC and 6.4% on tablets. According to the study, the most dedicated Mexican gamers are those on consoles with longer gaming sessions.

Xbox continues to dominate in Mexico but PlayStation is gaining ground with PS5

However, the scene of console users in Mexico shows that the era of preference for Nintendo is behind us and reaffirms that our country is still Xbox’s land. However, there is a detail to take into account since Xbox went from having 60.2% of the Mexican market in 2021 to having 54.1%, this is related to the increase in popularity of PlayStation, which went from having a market share in Mexico of 27.2%. in 2021 to 33.5% in 2022.

In this regard, the study refers to the decision of Mexican players on Xbox could be related to the approval or not of the purchase of Activision Blizzard. On the other hand, it indicates that the growth of PlayStation in our country has to do with a greater offer of PS5 and the success of the exclusive franchises of PlayStation Studios.
