The DPC, which acts on behalf of the European Union, announced that it had withdrawn the legal proceedings following an “agreement by X to continue to respect the terms” of this commitment reached in August.
“It is now a permanent commitment” on the part of X, Graham Doyle, head of communications for the Irish commission, told AFP.
According to the DPC, Elon Musk’s social network used the personal data of its European users between May 7 and August 1, an “illegal” use that was reported in eight European countries, according to a count by the Austrian association Noyb.
The goal was to use the data to train an artificial intelligence called Grok.
The Irish data protection authority is competent to act on behalf of the EU because X’s European headquarters are in Ireland, like those of many Silicon Valley tech giants.
